Cataract & Refractive Surgery
Cataract surgery and refractive surgery are both types of eye surgery that can improve
vision, but they target different aspects of the eye.
Cataract surgery is a procedure used to remove the cloudy lens from the eye when it
becomes too opaque and interferes with vision. During the procedure, the surgeon removes
the natural lens and replaces it with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) to restore clear vision.
Cataract surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis and is considered to be a safe
and effective procedure.
Refractive surgery, on the other hand, is a procedure that is designed to correct refractive
errors in the eye, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Refractive
surgery can be done through various techniques, including LASIK, PRK, and LASEK. These
procedures reshape the cornea to change the way light enters the eye, which can correct
refractive errors and improve vision.
In summary, cataract surgery and refractive surgery are both procedures that can improve
vision, but they target different aspects of the eye. Cataract surgery is used to remove a
cloudy lens and replace it with an artificial one, while refractive surgery is used to correct
refractive errors in the cornea.
Cataract surgery and refractive surgery both offer several benefits, including:
- Improved vision
- Increased independence
- Safe and effective
- Outpatient procedures
- Quick recovery
- Long-lasting results
